EU Lisbon Treaty: Unlikely Political Allies Geert Wilders’ PVV and Dutch Socialists Might Start Another Referendum Crisis In EU

The anti immigrant PVV party in Netherlands, along with the opposition Socialist party might force EU leaders to reconsider their agreement to change the Lisbon Treaty.

In 2005, the Dutch electorate rejected the proposed EU constitution – which led the European Leaders to put together the Lisbon Treaty and get it approved without seeking consent of European citizens except for in Ireland. Now, European leaders might again face the wrath of the voters if the question is put to the Dutch electorate.

Louis Bontes, MP from the anti -Islamic PVV has said that the party would propose a referendum on the EU treaty amendment, if it fails to impose tough sanctions on countries who flout the budget deficit rule.
